Helping a hyper-relevant publisher bring their gloss to the web.
Wondersauce was tasked with a full re-design of the iconic publication's digital presence. After immersing ourselves in the culture and workflow of their entire team, we quickly discovered that while a best-in-class end user reading experience was an obvious goal, the more critical challenge was to design tools that The FADER’s editorial team could use to more effectively apply their vision to the stories they tell online.
Honoring The FADER’s tradition of never cropping a photographer’s final deliverable, we created a fluid system that utilized every pixel of ever image added to the site.
We designed a strikingly simple system of building blocks to construct articles with tremendous creative freedom.
A dynamic hub system automatically generated dedicated pages for artists, contributors, events, and more the moment enough pertinent content exists on the site.
The initial launch was very successful, but the true beauty of what we had created for our client became apparent as they continued to learn new ways to leverage the fundamental tools we gave them. This was validated a year after launch, when online readership had increased 78%, and their team was laying out articles in ways we hadn’t even considered possible.
Increase in online readership 1 year after launch.
